Home Kitchen From-scratch Baja Seasoning Blend

New year. New spice blend.

This baja seasoning blend is quickly becoming one of my favorites. Calling for 7 robust spices, it’s the reliable blend of smoky and garlicky goodness. Sprinkle it over fish, chicken or vegetables for major flavor.

To cook this Baja Seasoning Set out:

  • garlic powder
  • smoked paprika
  • cumin
  • fine salt
  • chili powder
  • black pepper
  • coriander
  • onion powder

There’s no right or wrong brand. I will first say, buy what you can afford. However, not all spices are created equal as you tend to get what you pay for. Currently I use Morton & Bassett (not sponsored) because I find their spices to be top notch in texture, color and flavor. A regular here and respect what their company stands for not only with charitable work but also quality control. With that said some other pleasing brands I’ve used over the years are Simple Organic, Frontier Co-op and Penzys.

In a small container like a glass jar, measure and add 1 tablespoon garlic powder, 1 tablespoon smoked paprika, 1 and 1/2 teaspoons of both ground cumin and fine salt, 1 teaspoon of each chili powder, ground black pepper, coriander and onion powder.

Stir well to combine.

Store in cool, dry place for 6 months or longer. This spice blend smells only as notable as it tastes.
